Sheet Metal Bending
The Junction Box is an enclosure used to protect electrical connections, wiring, and terminals from external elements like dust, moisture, and mechanical damage. These boxes are commonly made from sheet metal and can be fabricated using laser cutting, stamping, and bending.
Sheet Metal Bending Process
A force is applied to a metal sheet to deform it into the desired shape.
This is typically done using a press brake machine, which uses a punch and die to form precise bends.
Bending can be performed on stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel, and other alloys.
Material Selection
Mild Steel (MS):Strong and cost-effective,needs surface treatment for rust protection.
Stainless Steel (SS304/SS316):Corrosion-resistant,ideal for outdoor and industrial use.
Aluminum:Lightweight and corrosion-resistant,used in electrical and aerospace applications.
Galvanized Steel:Pre-coated for rust resistance, suitable for high-moisture environments.
Standard Sizes
Typically ranges from 100x100x50 mm to 400x400x200 mm,but can be custom-sized.
Includes mounting flanges or brackets for installation.
Features & Components
Pre-cut Knockouts for cable entry (round,square,or conduit-friendly).
Lid with Hinges or Screw Fasteners for easy maintenance.
Gasket Sealing (IP65/IP66 Rated) for waterproof and dustproof protection.
Earth/Grounding Terminals to prevent electrical hazards.

Fabrication Process
Step 1: Laser Cutting (Sheet Metal Cutting)
Uses fiber or CO2 laser to cut the metal sheet into a flat layout.
Cuts include:
Outer Profile:Defines the junction box shape.
Cable Knockouts & Vent Holes:Pre-cut for easy wiring access.
Mounting Holes:For wall or pole installation.
Advantages: High precision, clean edges, and minimal material wastage.
Step 2: Stamping & Punching (Creating Knockouts & Embossing)
Uses stamping dies or CNC punching machines to:
Make knockout holes (for conduit or cable glands).
Add embossed labels or markings (grounding symbols, electrical ratings).
Strengthen panels by adding reinforcement ribs.
Advantages: Faster processing and uniform hole placement.
Step 3: Bending & Forming (Shaping the Box)
A press brake machine bends the metal sheet into a 3D box structure.
Typical bends:
90°bends to form the sides.
Tabs & Slots for alignment and assembly.
Hinges & Brackets for securing the cover.
Considerations:
Bend radius must match material thickness to avoid cracks.
Order of bending ensures smooth assembly without interference.
Step 4: Assembly & Fastening
Welding (Spot or TIG Welding):Fuses corners for a seamless finish.
Rivets or Screws:Used if a detachable cover is required.
Gaskets & Seals:Provide IP-rated waterproof protection.
Optional Add-ons:
Cable clamps,grounding terminals,interior mounting plates.
Step 5: Surface Finishing (Protection & Aesthetics)
Powder Coating:Rust resistance, available in different colors.
Galvanizing:Zinc coating for corrosion protection.
Anodizing (for Aluminum):Enhances durability and appearance.
Electroplating (for Stainless Steel):Improves electrical conductivity.
